Policies we review

Cover the decisions and funds you are responsible for.

We compare management, employment, and crime insurance individually, including when they appear in a package. You should know what each part covers and which limits it shares.

Directors & officers

D&O insurance addresses covered allegations about management decisions. We compare the protection offered to the organization and its leaders.

What we check in the quotes

  • People and entities included in the insured definitions
  • Protection for the entity and reimbursement of indemnification
  • Exclusions for professional services or disputes between insureds
  • Prior-acts restrictions and the treatment of defense expenses

A demand challenges the board’s oversight of a restricted fund. The insured definitions and exclusions help determine how the policy treats the named defendants and alleged management act.

Employment practices liability

EPLI can cover allegations such as discrimination or wrongful termination. We review the workforce definitions and exclusions behind each proposal.

What we check in the quotes

  • Definitions covering employees, applicants, and other claimants
  • Extensions for allegations made by nonemployees
  • Wage-and-hour restrictions and any defense provision
  • Retained costs, defense arrangements, and reporting requirements

A former employee alleges retaliation after raising a concern about program supervision. Coverage turns on the employment wording and timing of the claim; we review those terms separately from general liability.

Commercial crime

Crime insurance can cover specified losses of money or property. We compare employee theft, fraudulent transfer, and impersonation terms separately.

What we check in the quotes

  • Employee-theft terms and the definition of volunteers
  • Purchased computer-fraud and funds-transfer agreements
  • Social-engineering extensions and required payment checks
  • Cover for client property and the loss-discovery period

Someone posing as a vendor asks your organization to send payments to a different bank account. If your organization authorizes the payment, the social-engineering extension and voluntary-transfer restrictions may affect whether the loss is covered.

Discuss commercial insurance

Insurance for the board agenda

We give you a recommendation you can explain.

We set out the material differences between proposals and explain why we recommend an option. Your board or management can weigh the premium against the protection offered and the costs the organization retains.

Restricted funds and program terms

Grant conditions and restricted funds change what an insurance decision has to protect. We identify the restrictions that affect your programs before terms are compared.

Where the limits are shared

Several coverage parts can draw on one limit, so a single matter may exhaust protection you assumed was separate. We show where that applies in each proposal.

Open questions raised before you decide

Unresolved wording is easier to fix before binding than after. We put the terms still in question in front of you rather than leaving them in the file.

How we handle your insurance

We take the renewal work off your agenda.

We organize the application and manage market follow-up. You confirm the facts about the organization, then choose with the proposals explained.

Understand the organization

We work through your programs or services and what has changed since the last policy. We review the governing structure and responsibilities for staff and funds.

Approach the insurance market

We prepare the submission and seek terms for the account. We handle follow-up questions and check how each quote addresses the work described.

Explain the insurance decision

We compare the proposals with your existing coverage and recommend an option. We explain changes in exclusions or retained costs before you decide.

Details we check

Know who and what the policy covers.

Insured people and entities
We check whether the definitions include the organization and the people acting on its behalf.
Coverage continuity
We review prior-acts restrictions and reporting dates when comparing the renewal with replacement policies.
Payment conditions
We explain verification requirements and limits that could affect cover for a deceptive transfer request.

The complete policy

We read the amendments behind the proposal.

Endorsements can change the cover described in a summary. We examine the full wording and compare it with requirements in funding and client agreements.

Your current insurance

We review the forms and endorsements to establish what the organization has before seeking its next policy.

Your contractual requirements

We identify where a grant or engagement agreement asks for terms the proposed cover may not provide.

Management insurance answers

Understand the policy before the board approves it.

We explain the distinctions between D&O, employment practices, and crime cover that can be obscured in a combined proposal.

Is employment practices insurance included in a management package?

It may be, but we confirm the coverage parts actually quoted. We check the EPLI limit, retained costs, and reporting conditions, and explain whether it shares a limit with D&O or another part of the package.

Does the insurance include volunteers?

We check volunteers in the definitions of each relevant policy. Crime and liability cover can treat them differently. We describe their roles in the submission and flag where the proposed terms leave them outside a definition.

Will employee-theft insurance cover a fraudulent payment request?

Employee-theft cover alone may not address a payment authorized after deception. We examine social-engineering and transfer-fraud terms, including required verification steps. We explain any separate limit or exclusion affecting that kind of loss.

Yerba Buena

Insurance that follows the program beyond the office.

A San Francisco nonprofit may run a program at another organization’s venue while its board meets remotely. We trace who supervises the activity and controls its spending, then describe those roles in the insurance account. Work away from the usual premises belongs in the review too.
